If you're a NASCAR fan, (or even watch it on occasion) Charlotte is the place to be! The most complete website I could find for maps, events, and specific locations was:
The only real cost you'll have is the gas to drive to the different garages and any souvies you pick up. Entrance to the garages (at least when I was last there in 2004) was free.
Even if you're not a die-hard NASCAR fan as I am not, it really was interesting to see how the cars were built. I couldn't believe how SPOTLESS they were. It would be a great, inexpensive day with a youngster who is interested in cars.

Day -15 - Charlotte|
As you can tell, my day count started with Day negative 16 (-16). The reason for this is because the "Official" Day 1 is on June 11th when we cross the Golden Gate Bridge. So for my blogging purposes…NASCAR, there is a big race this weekend close to Charlotte, so there were lots of intriguing people running around…
