N. Kaibab Nat. Forest, Grand Canyon, AZ Jacob Lake Reviews
Free camping on North Rim Grand Canyon Aug 13, 2015
Stop in Jacob Lake, AZ at the N. Kabab Nat. Forest to get a necessary Foreast Service map. Then take AZ 67 south to the Grand Canyon. Before you reach the fee area of the Nat. Park pass De Motte Park (a gas station and a small store in one building.) Go almost a mile and take a right (west) on FS 22 and find your way to many forest roads that dead end at the Grand Canyon N. rim. By far, Crazy Jug Point is the best scenic overlook with free camping and isolation. (If you continue north on FS 22 it will take you back to Fredona Arizona.) You can drink till you drop in the Forest when done driving, while the Nat. Park may throw you in jail for having one beer.
Please respect the burn bans cuz it gets tinder dry and its easy to start a run-a-way fire that can get very large. I love the green forest and not the black forest of dead trees.
Another possibility is to go where FS 22 turns right; but turn left (east) on FS 610 to go to what they call the East Rim overlooking Marble Canyon. Look for Marble Viewpoint and have free camping. Fs 22 and Crazy Jug Point is much better.
There are a nice collection of FS numbered roads that you can navigate and find any pullover in a nice grove of trees or a nice little meadow and pull off the numbered road and thats your free camp. Now traveling on unmarked roads and you can try your luck without me.
