Crater Lake Jul 03, 2008
Myvatn is centered around the lake, but is used for the general area around it. Couple of small villages by the lake, where you can get some food and drinks.
The main feature of the lake, and the surrounding shore are the pseudocraters, caused by bubbling lava cooling and gases being released.
Some have formed islands in the lake, and hosts a great variety of bird life.
On the southern shore is an old settlement called Skutustadir, which has paths round it and you can walk round the ruins and craters.
Quite stunning scenery, and the fascinating craters make this a popular destination and well worth a look.
