Mysore could be considered the cultural capital of Karnataka state. Mysore is famous for the Mysore palace and surrounding structures from the Wodeyar dynasty and Tipu Sultan's empire. Mysore palace is one of the most beautiful in India, and now houses a museum; it is beautifully lit every Sunday night and every night during Dussera festival. Another beautiful palace "Lalith mahal" is now a hotel.

Mysore is a laidback town with a growing IT and educational presence in the country. Places of interest include the Chamundi hills temple, St. Philomena church, Jaganmohan palace art gallery. Brindavan gardens and Krishnadevarai Sagar reservoir/dam are quite close to the city. The city's zoo is famous in the area. A lake in the city bounds is a protected sanctuary for birds. Mysore is also famous for its fine silk products, sandalwood products and Karnataka handicrafts.

It is well connected by rail and road to major cities. The closeby city of Srirangapatna is where other remnants of the Wodeyar, Tipu Sultan dynasties are found.

First stop in India was Bangalore. I did not stay there as I got a pick up to go to Mysore straight away. I have been in Mysore for the past 2 weeks and I love it here. This is a great place if you want to study yoga. Great teachers and quality yoga. I am studing with Barath Shetty which I have to say is amazing. He is going to be as famous as Pattabi Jois. I am convince of this. His technique is Hatta - Iyengar and I have learned more in 2 weeks than in 2 years in London. He is very seriou...

We got off the overnight train in Bangalore and got a long 3 hour bus into mysore.  Bit tiring that bit - but we got there - negotiated auto rickshaws at the station - and were off to the hotel.  Or for some of us - to a restaurant of the same name whch caused some kerfuffle...  But eventually we were there - with the help of a man who would become our stalker - trying to be 'helpful' but trying to get us to see his mum making incense - mysore's trademark - and then trying...

Mysore- amazing palace and the usual india chaos.  This town has been dubbed My-sore-ass by my dad's friend.  I can image his reason for this, our reason for agreeing is a 7.5 hour bus journey on the bumpiest road ever in the worst bus ever.
