Relaxing resort with the beach as it's backyard May 05, 2014
Mykonos Palace Beach Hotel is a nice resort with the beach as it's backyard! Since it's a very popular one in Platis Gialis, our taxi driver already knew where it's located, so we had no trouble getting there.
Upon arrival, the receptionist at the counter checked our information and told us that unfortunately, it was too early to check in. We got there around 12 and check-in wasn't until 3pm. He offered to hold our luggage at the reception area until we did check in, since we wanted to go to the beach and hang out there.
We had a drink at the hotel bar, which was excellent. It's a nice area in the shade, overlooking the beach and the ocean. There is also a swimming pool by the bar, but I never saw anyone use it. However, I did later see a few people lounging by it.
Once we did check in, he carried our bags for us to the room, which was just across the street from the reception building. The room was pretty big, with three beds, which was one more than we were expecting. However, the layout was pretty simple, with just a small table, TV, and mini fridge.
The bathroom was spacious. However, I found several hairs on the walls of the shower. The shower curtains don't work too well, either. The water ended up getting everywhere on the floor of the bathroom, so we had to throw a few towels down.
One of the keys broke off in the lock while we were heading out, and when we got to the reception desk, the woman that took care of the problem was a little rude. However, she got on the phone with the locksmith immediately, and we left since there was nothing we could do at that point. She was able to have the lock fixed by the time we got back. Thankfully, we didn't get charged for the key. I had a feeling key issues happened often, because we also noticed another lady saying her key doesn't work.
The male receptionist seemed confused most of the time. I'm not sure whether it's just a language barrier issue or not, but he seemed flustered and unable to answer our questions. Still, he was very nice and was able to get the help of someone who was.
There are plenty of options for breakfast, including eggs, meats, cereal, cheeses, spanakopita, olives, vegetables, fruits, and baklava. The hot dishes such as eggs and meats were cooked differently for each of the two mornings I was there.
The hotel is in a resort area, so it's a popular destination in Mykonos. However, it's also very easy to get to other parts of the island by bus. bus station is about three minutes away from the hotel, and busses come at regularly scheduled times. The most popular one is to go to Old Port/Little Venice area, and that bus comes every 30 minutes.
