My favourite 3 iPhone Apps for Melbourne Reviews
Handy iPhone apps Jul 20, 2010
If you are heading to Melbourne and if you have an iPhone I strongly recommending downloading any (if not all) of the following apps:
Tramtracker - currently free.
When linked to the phone's GPS you can locate a tram stop by linking to 'maps', browse the different tram routes and by inputing the trams number when you are on board look how long it will take to reach your stop.
Lonely Planet, Melbourne City Guide - if you are going to be be based in Melbourne for a while and don't fancy hauling around yet another guide book then this is pretty good, it has a map that can be used offline as well as linked into the phones GPS system ('maps') so that you can find where the hell you are. It also has phone numbers for all the bars, restaurants and places it lists.
Melbourne - Eat.Drink.Play - similar to a Lonely Planet this (currently) free guidebook app goes a little bit deeper under Melbourne's skin and reveals some of its hidden gems that not all tourists often get to see. With a similar GPS function as the LP guide you can do things such look at the location of the place you're interested in (although I have found some glitches with this feature) and call a venue.
I hope those come in handy for any fellow backpacking technophiles out there.
