Polish Poster Art Mar 21, 2009
MUZEUM PLAKATU - Poster Museum. This museum opened in 1968 and was the world's first poster museum. It is worth a visit which can be combined with visiting the Wilanów Palace and Gardens. If you're only going to this museum and don't intend on visiting Wilanów Palace as well, it is a good idea to check if it is open first. I tried to visit again last weekend and the museum was closed for some refurbishment.

It is a pleasant bike ride away from downtown Warsaw, but can also be reached easily by car or public transportation. Located at Wilanów, in the same park as the Palace and Gardens. It has one of the largest collections of art posters in the world.

If you decide to visit the palace, it is important to get there somewhat early in the day because I was informed that there is a maximum number of visitors allowed during the day.

The posters on display when I visited the museum were mostly from soviet times and dealt mainly with travel and tourism in Poland during that era. It was like being in a time machine for a moment, seeing how Poland was presented as a tourist destination during the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Polish poster art is famous world-wide, and many of the posters on display are rare collectors items. A beautiful poster can also be a great souvenir that will remind you of your stay in Poland.

I drive past this cemetery all the time. If you don't know it's there, it's easy to drive by without taking much notice.  There's a little black door at one end of a very long strech of a very tall brick wall.  That door is usually closed,…… Okopowa Jewish Cemetery
