A fantastic experience right at the entrance to the Malaysian rainforest! Dec 10, 2011
My husband and I stayed here in April 2011 and loved it. We stayed in a chalet and while it wasn't anything like the ultra-modern rooms at 5-star hotels in cities (nor did we expect it to be!), it provided basic amenities and wildlife right at our doorstep! We saw tapirs, deer, a pair of monitor lizards and wild hogs on the property. The hotel is located right at the entrance to the park and organises jungle walks (day and night) and treks to the canopy walkway, surfing rides on the rapids, visit to the Orang Asli (native inhabitants) settlement nearby. There were lots of birdwatching enthusiasts and families with little kids and everyone seemed to be really enjoying their stay there.
The staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive. There is no fitness center/swimming pool but trekking in the rainforest every day, jungle walks by night, and the occasional boat ride to a natural 'swimming pool' of sorts, will make you forget everything else.
There is a convenience store on the premises where you can buy basic stuff like tea, coffee, sugar, water, snacks and even shoes you can wear for trekking through the jungle.
The chalets are air-conditioned and well-appointed (nothing luxurious), the bathroom has basic amenities; hot/cold water is available 24X7. An electric kettle and tea/coffee/sugar sachets (no mini tubs of milk/creamer though - you can buy it from the convenience store) are placed in a little corner. No room service, though. Just as well, because the restaurant is like one big, happy family. The resident cat does not always beg for food (but does love sitting in your lap). We made quite a few friends here, and discussed plans for the next few days. Day/night treks through the jungle, visit to the bat caves nearby, the canopy walkway, shooting the rapids, bird watching, etc were highly recommended. I did feel that I seemed to know more than our guide did, on the jungle walk at night (but really can't complain as I studied entomology)- but my husband was very impressed with the guide's knowledge.
Overall, it was a very comfortable stay, and the proximity to the rainforest made for an awesome experience.

Mutiara Taman Negara Overview
Within the great expanse of nature, lies the Mutiara Taman Negara Resort, overlooking the Tembeling and Tahan rivers. Endless opportunities awaits the adventurer. At Mutiara Taman Negara Resort, you can choose from cosy timber bungalows and rustic chalets equipped with all the comforts of home, to dormitory-style accommodation; or get even closer to nature by setting up tent at the camping site!
The facilities at the Mutiara Taman Negara Resort are quite sophisticated considering the isolated location. There is a range of hostel, chalet and bungalow accommodation with most of it being constructed of timber so that it blends into the adjoining rainforest.
There are also several hides within the park and these have bunks for comfortable overnight stays. These hides are rustic structures located adjacent to swamps rich in minerals. Many animals living in the park visit these salt licks to obtain minerals to supplement their diets. The animals graze unaware that tourist are hiding and watching their every move.
A trip to Taman Negara can be as relaxed or as energetic as you like. The facilities in the park provide for the varied requirements of visitors. The chalets were perfect as there were no televisions or phones to disturb my slumber.
Visit and enjoy Taman Negara as there are few rainforest experiences in the world quite like it. The Mutiara Taman Negara Resort places great emphasis on conversation with the principal message being-leave the park as you found it so that generations of adventurous travelers will be able to appreciate the many wonders of this rainforest wonderland. Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but your footprints.
