Must do/see in Sri Lanka Mar 30, 2011
Such a beautiful, totally worthwhile 3 hour hike in the early morning. Making the pilgrimage with people of all faiths that make this trek up this 7,000 ft high mountain every year was such an amazing privilege. The sunrise and surrounding landscape was unbelievable, butthe shadow on the other side was completely breathtaking. Don't forget to ring the bell when you get to the top!

Breath taking hike to Sri Pada - Adam's peak Apr 10, 2011
Hike to the 2243m high mountain is MUST which you need to do if you are in this are. The best time to go there is between December (start on Poya day) and till end of April - May, when pilgrimage season is.

For tourists the best starting point is Dalhousie - 30km southwest from Hatton, from where you will need 2 hours and a half to reach the top. There is more than 5000 steps which you will need to climb to reach the top, so you can prepare your self, that you will feel your legs / knees for the next day or two.

The other option to react the top is if you start from Ratnapura from where you will need almost 7 hours - it's more popular among locals.

No matter which way you take, prepare your self. Take enough water with you and some warm clothes - sometimes it can be quite windy on the top. You can buy some water or snacks also on the road till the top, but higher you'll go, more expensive it will be.

Ensure that you will reach the top before the sunrise - this is one of the things why you need to go to the top. Starting at 2:00 - 2:30 in the night from Dalhouise is a good time - depends on your physical condition of course. As soon as the sunrise is over, you can expect all the crowd will go down, so it's better to wait 1-2 hours one top and enjoy in the view.

Climbing on the top is really one time experience, because you can see how much means this peak to the people. Not just Christian's, but also Muslim's, Hindus and Buddhists - for all of them this is a sacred mountain. And when you are looking old women's carrying couple of months old baby's with them on the top or old mans climbing with one leg...or also without...that's when you realize how much it means to them.

I don' regret that I went on the top and if I will ever have a chance to go to Sri Lanka - I will go to Adam's peak again, FOR SURE :)
