Muskegon Overview

Muskegon is a city in Western Michigan that is located along the shores of Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan, 40 miles West of Grand Rapids. The 2010 census shows Muskegon proper with a population of 38,401, and a Metro population of 172,188. The Muskegon area is also included with the Grand Rapids CSA, with a population of 1,321,557.

Recreation in the area is abundant, with beaches on Lake Michigan, rivers for canoeing, inland lakes for fishing, trails for hiking and parks for camping. There is also an amusement park and a water park located just minutes from Downtown Muskegon, and golf courses that are located within minutes from the city.

When in Muskegon, you can also visit the LST 393, a World War II ship museum located downtown, or the Navy Museum and USS Silversides submarine, which was a military sub used during World War II, that has been converted into a museum itself. Both the USS Silversides and Naval Museum are located at the Muskegon Channel, next to Pere Marquette State Park. And speaking of Pere Marquette State park, you can also enjoy a nice stroll along the beach, or take a cool refreshing dip in Lake Michigan. You can also enjoy a beautiful sunset from Pere Marquette Park while relaxing in the sand.
