Central museum in country Dec 10, 2017
Museum of Republika Srpska (Muzej Republike Srpske) is another major institution that is located in one part of the famous building named Dom radnicke solidarnosti since 1982.

This is one of many legacies that ban Svetislav Tisa Milosavljevic left to Banja Luka. It founded on 26th September 1930 according to order king Aleksandar Karadjordjevic. As many institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and this one was changing its name many times since its foundation. First was Museum of Vrbas Banovina (Banovina - a regional unit in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia). The present name held from 14th November 1992 according to the decision of the Government of the Republika Srpska. It was official declare as the central institution for the protection of movable cultural property of Republika Srpska.

The Museum of the Republika Srpska operate within several departments:

1. Center for the material culture and art (divided into several sections for archaeology, history, ethnology and ethnography, history of art and department of science),

2. Documentation center with a library, photo labs, and archive documents,

3. The Center for conservation and restoration,

4. The Center for education and

5. The Department of general services

From the total area in which the museum is located (3648,41 square meters), permanent exhibit occupies the space of 1561 square meters. In his collection of the museum keeps about 35000 exhibits a specialized museum library has 14000 books.

You will first see temporary exhibit salon on your right side. I saw the nice little collection of pictures. Then big connected hall of the historical and ethnographic part. There is also and natural science collection (mostly birds from Bardaca region near town Srbac).

I especially found poignant and profound part dedicated to the multimedia permanent exhibit of Jasenovac concentration camp from WWII.

Next to the Museum is the permanent exhibition in outdoor of heavy armor and train engines.

The official site of Museum has an English version too and offers the virtual tour which not available now, sadly.

This building was open for visitors every day from 8 am to 8 pm (even on officially holidays). I visited the museum on 9th May which is the national holiday and non-working day.

Fee: 1 KM or BAM for locals and 2 KM or BAM for foreigners.

This is the venue of cultural events especially specific and thematic exhibits.

In its shop (in addition to guard cabin) you can buy some books published by the Museum.

Tribute to Spiridon-Spiro Bocaric Dec 10, 2017
Spiridon-Špiro Bocarić (1876-1941) was an academic painter and first curator and manager of this Museum. He was noticeable by its artistic and scientific work regard collecting and evaluating the ethnographic legacy of Bosnian Krajina. He creates collection and establishes ethnographic department of Museum.

Some of his painting, mostly portraits of noticeable persons from the political and cultural life of Banja Luka of his time. You can see its work on exhibit space on the wall in the first section of biggest space in Museum on your right side and across small space where its bust is.

He was born in Budva, Montenegro and come to Banja Luka thanks to his friendship with Petar Kocic in 1914 and stay there until Ustasha occupation of Bosnian Krajina during WWII and expansion of Nazi puppet state Independent State of Croatia. Sadly, he was captured and killed on 19 July 1941 in pogrom over Serbs in location call Sharanova jama (Jadovno) near Gospic (Croatia).

If I remember correctly I see its bust first next to shops close to enter but now small display space on left side of the big corridor is create the as small shrine and present history of Museum and Banja Luka related to it, the important piece of art and history and bust of its first curator and important figure of Banja Lukas history.

Outdoor Exhibit Jan 23, 2017
Unique public exhibit space in Banja Luka is in the downtown.

Next to the famous landmark of Banja Luka - Dom radnicke solidarnosti, where is placed and Museum of Republika Srpska, is interesting outdoor permanent exhibition of heavy armor and train engine.

In addition to this tip you can find and related photographs of permanent outdoor exhibition of Museum:

1. Steam machine and tank

2. Two big canons

3. Old locomotive

I do not know much about those museum peaces and I did not find any informational boards next to it.
