A really beautiful building Jan 19, 2012
Actually I never managed to get inside the museum but the exterior was totally magnificent. I left my hotel and I crossed a number of large parking lots and construction sites before I ended up at the huge road that had taken me from the airport and lead to downtown Doha. On the other side of the road I could see the magnificent Islamic Museum of Art.

The way that they had arranged the light on it was impressive in the dark and especially with the constantly changing lights of the Doha Skyline in the back. Crossing the road turned out to be a nightmare because there was not planed with pedestrians, but after some nerve wrecking and hazardous experiences I found myself on the other side of the road ready to visit the museum. The time had passed on the late side of 8 pm and I was sure that the museum was closed but the gates were open so I might be able to walk close to the museum.

I contacted one of the guards that stated that the park was open but he didn't give me any indications on for how long. I enter and walked to the main entrance of the museum where long rows of palm trees lead up to a first floor entrance. I was trying to find a way to have a better view of the Doha Skyline so walked along the water where I was stopped by security guards a couple of times. I had hoped that it was possible to get on the other side of the museum but there were not any possibilities of that. I was pretty impressed with building itself as well.

I walked in the park admiring the building and along the water for maybe almost an hour before I decided to head back towards the hotel.

the simplicity and purity of this building is what grasped me from the minute i stepped out of the cab. I walked around the area in the front of the museum and explored the running stream of water, the beautiful walkway lined with palm trees, and the gorgeous fountains outside...

the museum was the vision of the Emir of Qatar- Sheikh Hamad bin Kalifa.. its part of a vision to make Doha more connected to the world.. this was the flagship project with many more to come in the next few years...

the museum is open pretty much everyday until about 5:30.. be careful as to what you wear.. appropriate attire is required.. long pants, long sleeves etc.. they will either give you a scarf to cover up or ask you to change and come back if your attire is inappropriate!!

inside you will find a gorgeous building designed by Mr. Pei. the museum also boasts a very large education center... Art inside consists of jewelry, pots, sculptures, fabrics, rugs, calligraphy, books etc.. pretty much everything you can think of you will find inside...

if you are in Doha.. this is a must visit.. enjoy your day there =)
