Behind the St Jans church in Gouda, in The Catharina Gasthuis you find Museum Gouda, a historical museum, very interesting and surprising to visit.
This museum gives you a good overview of Gouda, furniture, weapons and paintings from the Golden age. There are also collections relating to the history of the building as a hospital, the surgeons' guild room, the old town pharmacy, the hospital kitchen and a cell for the mentally ill. Under the chapel there’s a dungeon. There’s an interesting display of torture equipment. It s to awful to explain! I made photos of it. There’s also a prisoner cell. When you pay 2,75 for visit the St Jans church you can also visit the Gouda Museum and the Pharmaceutical museum for the same price, it’s very cheap, I think too cheap. |

We also went to the Gouda Museum across the path. Entrance for the church covers the museum as well, although this is puzzling because as far as we could tell, the church costs two and a bit euros and the museum should cost about four. Needless to say, I didn… read more |

I shall be a little more organised next time and order a tourists travel guide to ensure I see the many museums and monuments here. I have many photo's of the lovely churches but unsure as to which is which. No mistaking the magnificient, imposing building that is the Town Hall though in the markt square. Fabulously gothic building from the 15th century.
As usual… read more |
