"Education of Maritime Museum" Dec 05, 2013
In Jakarta the capital of Indonesia, in precisely the area of the city’s origin, which is the old port named Sunda Kelapa, you can take a glimpse back in the city’s history and in amongst the old buildings is the Maritime Museum, which houses many a collection of various historical relics in particular from the Dutch VOC (East India Company) colonial days, these relics exist in the form of paintings, photographs, and interesting various replicas of boats, both of full size and smaller models. These boats are the traditional ancient navigation vessels of seafaring nations that made the journeys to these islands, also there are tools and many other items related to the seas around Indonesian. By visiting this museum you will get an idea about the traditions and life of the ancestors of our nation, we can also see the importance of the sea to the economy of our society especially in the first period, until now. Of the various replica boats that are seen here are ones used to catch fish, others powered by steam engines and those more historical, like the Phinisi type boats made and sail by Bugis trides of South Sulawesi, who were the first to sail here from Makassar, it has became one of the famous sailing vessels to sail to many parts of the world.

Oh yeah, do not forget to see other collections in the form of marine life, fish in Indonesian waters, also fishing community customs and technology shows, that show how make traditional boats. There is also a dimension to the Forces that warred here which led to the cartography of Indonesia, Onrust here are heroic figures of the royal maritime archipelago, all displayed neatly at the maritime Museum. To visit this museum an entrance fee is required to be paid, but it is quite affordable, only about IDR 3000 - 5000 /person. The Museum is open every Tuesday - Sunday from 09:00 to 15:00 pm, Mondays and special public holidays it is closed.

Let us sing a song..."Nenek moyangku orang pelaut
Gemar mengarung luas samudra...Menerjang ombak tiada takut...Menempuh badai sudah biasa...."
Nice review and amazing photos, Jenk.
