Museo del Oro Feb 28, 2013
Paid about 6000 pesos to get in.

I really enjoyed this museum because it provided a timeline from the earliest miners and goldsmiths to the times more recent. Very beautiful gold pieces and other precious minerals. You can easily spend a couple of hours here. There is even a pricey gift shop inside the museum and outside of the museum.

It is located just off of the Trasmilno line right next to the courtyard.

I hear it is free on Wed or Sundays? I cant remember.

It was easier to upload my images onto a entry rather than the review so check out that if you want pictures.

Colombia's Treasures of Precolombian Indigenous Art Feb 12, 2010
One of the best musea I have visited.

When the Spanish Conquistadores "discovered" the Americas and they wiped out most of the indigenous people while stealing their golden art works and melting them down before shipping them to power and money hungry Spain. Some of the tribes in remote areas saved themselves and their treasures - some 34,000 pieces - which are now being shown in this museum. Excellent exhibitions - clear descriptions and references in Spanish and English.

The entrance fee is a mere 2,800 pesos (US$ 1.25 for adults. Aged 60 and older are admitted free of charge.

Museo del Oro / Gold Museum Nov 03, 2009
This is a beautiful museum located in the heart of Bogotá's La Candelaria neighborhood. It's got hundreds of artworks, not all of them gold and not all Colombian, on display. See pre-Columbian, colonial and many other items. Also, you'll learn a lot about the area's anthropology.

Bogota is eerily quiet
As there's hardly a living soul around...! With that I mean other backpackers with who I can communicate with, because 8.5 million Bogotans do make for a bustling city. Colombia - I Want To Stay!!!
Colombia, South America’s tourism slogan is, “The Only Risk Is Wanting to Stay”.  This turned out to be prophetic for this small town Mississippi guy.  I remain a U.S. citizen, but…Bogota is home of the El Museo del Oro (The Gold Museum) containing world’s largest pre-Hispanic goldwork collection…
