National Museum - Museo de la Nacion Apr 25, 2009
If you are in Lima and want to know more about the Peruvian history, I recommend you to visit this museum. The location is a big building. Not every floor is open to the public, but at least you can visit 4 floors.

The location of this museum is good to, really easy to reach, by taxi or even bus, but they also have a parking lot.

Ok, now talking about the museum itself. The exhibitions are constantly changing. You can see pieces from the Pre Inca times, Inca Time, Colonial Times, Republic and also nowadays. As one of the city's biggest and most important museums in Peru, they show the highlights of overlapping and conquering Pre Inca cultures and their achievements, seen not only in architecture (including scale models), but also in highly advanced ceramics and textiles. They have a good collection of Inca and Colonial pieces too. But they are focused not only in the past. Right now they have an exhibition about what happened in Peru with the terrorism from 1980 - 2000.

Your visit might last from 2 - 3 hrs, so save some time for it.

The huge collection of artifacts from Pre-Columbian cultures is housed in a former government ministry building and as far as museum design goes it's about as bad as you can get. The collection is broken up into a maze of corriders and multi-level rooms. No toilet paper in the restrooms (you have to ask for it).

The high point was the artifacts themselves and a fantastic exhibition on the 6th floor of photographs illustrating the long terrorist struggle by Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) and Tupac Amaru communist groups.
