Knowing Peruvian Culture - Museo de Antropologia y Arqueologia Aug 19, 2008
This one must be one of the most complete museums of the country. Why? well, it shows every stage of the Peruvian History; since the first man arrived to the region until nowadays.
It's located in Pueblo Libre, an old and traditional district of Lima. The location is an old colonial house, just at the Main Square of the district. This museum is the one I used to visit as a student. Still today it is visited by many school groups, besides tourists. The first thing you'll see is a chronological chart will give you the information about what was going on in the world, while the Peruvian Culture was developing. The 1st part of the museum is about the arrival of the man to America and this region. You can find this kind of info everywhere, but then they start with the Peruvian most ancient civilizations. Next, you'll see the Pre-Inca Civilizations' art pieces from all over the country. And most of them are real stuff!!! Everything is well organized and you'd find information in Spanish and in English, well almost all of it. They have also an Inca Exhibition with interactive models. There's also an area for the Conquest and Colony. The last room is about the Republic and nowadays time. I highly recommend to visit this museum. It'd be better if you'd do it at the beginning of your visit to Peru, so you'd be able to understand better all the marvelous things you'd see in the rest of the country.
