Museo Regional de Ica Reviews
Small but interesting museum about local history and archology Jul 28, 2009
This museum, just a little outside of the city of Ica, shows a variety of archeological items found locally. It's a relatively small museum (just six large rooms), but the collection gives a nice representation of the peoples that lived around here.
It deals with the Pre-Colmbian history of the region, showing all kinds of pottery, hunting weapons, embroidery, and Inca signalling ropes.
The last hall of the museum holds (one of the) pride(s) of the museum: a collection of Nazca-mummies, in different states op preservation. One is even so well preserved, that the tattoo on the left arm is clearly visible.
It is unfortunate that some of the item that should be on display, are not there; only a photograph of the item can be seen, the items themselves were stolen some years and never heard or seen of since then (sick, isn't it!).
In spite of the robbery, the museum has held it's friendly appearance: you are not run down by safety guards everywhere like in many other musea, where there seem to be more safetymen than exhibits.
You must be interested in history and/or archeology to appreciate this museum (it's the only subject they have), but if you are, you don't want to miss this!
