Museo Regional Michoacano Morelia Reviews
Best museum in Morelia Aug 28, 2011
If you would need to pick only one museum in Morelia, this is definitively the one to choose.
The museum is located in a house that belonged to Isidro Huarte, the Father in Law of Iturbide, the first Emperor of Mexico. Don Isidro was a great benefactor of the city, working hard on the construction of the aqueduct.
This house was also chosen as the place to stay when Mexico's second Emperor Maximilian visited the city in the 1860's. It features several rooms with exhibitions including all of the Michoacan history from precolumbian times up to the Mexican independence in 1821. You don't really need to visit the other two museums if you see this one.
They got really important documents in exhibition, from missionary relates of indigenous life, and letters and other manuscripts from some of the main heroes of independence.
As I said, this is definitively the best and most essential museum in Morelia. You must not miss it if you are in town.
