Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes Santiago Reviews
Museum for a rainy day Jan 18, 2015
S33°26.198' W70°38.362' how much Europeans are spoiled with great art in great museums is reflected in the best art museum of Chile. The rather small Museo National de Bellas Artes with a very nice atrium contains art from every art period, from the 18th century to the present day.
Strolling from one room to another presented us with adjustment problems in December 2014. Rapid switching from unimpressive 18th century paintings to art house video art was required. It this the best visual art Chile can offer? The quality of the art was clearly challenged by the stately neoclassical building itself, which is impressive in it is own right.
Displays were nicely without English text, so every new room with contrasting unexplained art forms causes our senses to go in unexplained chaotic overdrive. Challenging art taste by presenting contrasting art forms of questionable quality may be the mission of the museum, but left us bewildered.
