The new "House of the Moon" - Museo Nacional Sican Aug 20, 2005
Usually when people think about Peru, they think about Machu Picchu, the Incas and the south of the country. Time is not enough to go to the north and see the pre Inca cultures who lived there. Well, if you have time to go to the north and want to learn about these cultures, I highly recommend you to visit this museum.

This museum was opened in 2001, built in an area called "House of the moon" by the pre-incas. It's located in Ferreñafe, which is 20Km north of Chiclayo. It's dedicated to exhibit and investigate the culture Sicán or Lambayeque.

It's building has a pyramidal shape, as the huacas built by the pre-incas of the region. It has 2 floors. The 1st for termporary exhibitions, offices, cafeteria, etc. The 2nd for the permanent exhibition, which is about all the aspects of the Sicán society and culture that shows the cultural development of the north coast. You will see the instruments the archaeologists found in the area and will be able to learn about the daily life of these people.

In one room they recreated the tombs, other one is about pottery and other about the jewelry.

One of the things I find the cooles was the audiovisual multimedia system they have in one room, that makes you feel as if you were in a time tunnel.

The entrance fee is really cheap about US$2.75 but if you are a student, just US$1.

How to go there:

- Taxi: max US$ 7.

- Colectivo: for 5 passengers - each less US$1

- Bus: US$ 0.60

(The colectivos and buses will drive you just until the alameda, from there you have to take a mototaxi which is S/1.)

If you are nearby, take some time to visit this museum and you can also enjoy a delicious meal in Ferrenafe.
