Top class archaeology museum Mar 06, 2010
Siracusa is justly proud of its archaeological museum, named after Paolo Orsi, a local archaeologist. It is a very modern hexagonal building and the museum is divided into three sections. We gave Section C a miss as we were tired after seeing the other two and we wanted to go on to the Parco Archeologico after a bite to eat.

However sections A and B are both really world class. Section A is devoted to prehistory and manage to link it to geology without the link seeming in any way artificial.

Section B is devoted to the Greek period. Siracusa, initialy a colony, became one of the most important cities of the Greek world with its own colonies. Hence this is an outstanding collection.
