Viale Vaticano, Vatican City, Italy
Musei Vaticani Vatican City Reviews
Four hours of your life you won't regret! May 19, 2014
It's the stuff that dreams are made of, the museum that everyone wants to visit and the Sistine Chapel - pristine to any Christian and non-Christian alike.
Rather than spend time talk about the various museums that make up this complex, because let's be honest - lots of travbuddy blogs and other websites do talk about it already, I thought I'd give you some practical tips based on my experience.
First off - please book online! The queues are serpentine, and they go on and on forever, and the last thing one wants to do whilst on vacation is spend a couple of hours outside waiting to get in.
Next - it's all about the timing! sure, you can book your tickets but don't choose the early morning slot. Instead, opt for the afternoon. Why? Because you can use the morning slot to visit St. Peter's when it's all quiet and less crowded (one doesn't have the option of fast-track queues there). So picture this - visit the pristine Church first thing, and then happily waltz back the bystanders (in the queue) and sashay in proudly to the museums at 1pm!
Finally - the much talked about Sistine Chapel. It's amazing, but just remember that photos aren't allowed. And any plans of capturing a selfie with the Michelangelo painting in the backdrop will have to be forgotten.
And yes, please do take an audio guide. It's amazing, and really helpful.
The signage isn't always very helpful so just follow the crowds (heaven knows there is enough of it!).
