Musée d'Histoire Archéologie de la Chartreuse - Another of his beauties
Musée d'Histoire Archéologie de la Chartreuse - One of his cars. The little board at the bottom warns people not to even reach out beyond the sign as it'll trigger an alarm
Musée d'Histoire Archéologie de la Chartreuse - This is really cool - I'm again, not sure what it means. Someone there had said that various statues of Christ were collected from abandoned churches and other institutions from nearby.
Musée d'Histoire Archéologie de la Chartreuse - Mr. Bugatti himself
Musée d'Histoire Archéologie de la Chartreuse - The garden
Musée d'Histoire Archéologie de la Chartreuse - Photos of cars he produced in the course of his life. The exhibition contained both photos and documents, in addition to the actual car models

It's like a town within a town, throw in the italian car to boot! Sep 17, 2015
Oh, talk about little surprises that are... BIG! Molsheim at face value is just another little town along the wine route of Alsace. But guess again - it's also home to the Bugatti automotive industry factory!

The former monastery La Chartreuse, partly destroyed in the French Revolution, now houses a museum ; covering an area of 3 hectares (7.4 acres), it used to be a genuine city within the city. Some of it includes a basement dedicated to Bugatti memorabilia, including 2 cars which have those magnetic force fields such that you can't even extend your hand beyond the frame to take a picture.

The museum is a little farther away from the main square and you won't think it's this big when you walk inside. The receptionist, extremely chatty and friendly kind of explained how it works - there are 2 parts: the history museum that starts on the 1st floor (top floor), and then goes straight to the basement where the Bugatti exhibits are on display, and then you make your way back up to the ground/main floor. You then walk out to see other rooms that contain religious exhibits.

Overall, I have to say this looks like a good museum. My only reason for rating it as average is because somehow, the whole experience felt very disjointed. The lack of information boards in each of the rooms didn't help much. It literally felt like I was wandering through an old town randomly - with no aim or pattern. That said, it was nice to see such a vast area with a huge collection of sorts.
