Musée Géologique Vernet-les-Bains Reviews
Who'd have thought it? May 17, 2003
Would you really expect to find what may well be the largest museum of its type in France open to the public in a small village like Vernet-les-Bains.
When Pam and I went there in 2003, it was the owner of the museum who gave guided tours in 4 languages - I have no reason for thinking this has changed. The location of the village here is, as far as I know, because this enthusiast lives there! There are over 10,000 exhibits, mainly crystals and marine fossils. The vast majority are french and most are collected by the proprietor himself, although he has been given numerous others from all parts of the world.
Leave yourself a long time for the visit because he has a great deal to tell and will tell it in more than one language on a trip if wanted. He will also go out of his way to ake his presentation interesting to children.
