sports bar upstairs, tourist tat downstairs Dec 17, 2010
Pros: this is a really great sports bar, especially if you're a football (soccer) fan. They show so many games every Saturday and Sunday upstairs that you don't know where to look. Their beer is one of the cheapest in central Dublin, and they do reasonable pub food, too. It's sure to be absolutely packed everytime there's a game on. There's also a fan club for my tea, Aston Villa, which obviously helps their cause with me!

Cons: the atmosphere's not always that calm, and can get a bit angsty when certain games are on. Best avoid Celtic games in particular. The tourist side downstairs is awful. There's some half-decent Irish dancing on most nights, and that's how they get people in, but otherwise it's pretty unrepresentative of an Irish pub. You can do a lot better heading somewhere more traditional. This is for sports only, really.
