Murphys Ice Cream Killarney Reviews
Expensive-licious Ice Cream! Nov 15, 2010
We walked passed this shop in the afternoon and were intrigued by the flavours of this ice cream, it had Sea Salt + Caramel. Weird combination but we thought of trying it after dinner.
That would be a nice treat for our last night in Killarney. After dining at The Caragh restaurant, we walked across the road to that turqoise looking shop. It was still opened! Yay!
We entered and asked for that weird flavour we saw that afternoon. The lady told us that it is actually two flavours (caramel + sea salt) in a cup and not just one type of ice cream. We decided to order just one cup of those two flavours. It was nice...really delicious but what we would consider as EXPENSIVE for so little. We order the small cup which was 3,50 euro.
Oh well, I guess this must be edible-delicious gold. They do sell Murphys Ice Cream recipe book. It is a nice place with a friendly server. No one knows why it cost SO much and you'll definitely see quotes from magazines. Let me quote: 'Ireland's most expensive ice cream is worth every penny.' by the Irish Tatler.
We believe there are much cheaper and wonderful tasty ice creams in this world too. This, I would list it in one of the good ones but the best? I wouldn't. Why? Blame it on the price. I would consider it steep.
PS: Cafes/bars/restaurants et cetera starting with the name 'Murphy' are NOT associated to each other. Somehow it is one of the common names in Ireland...
