Murano Glass Blowing Demonstration Travel Reviews

Jul 17, 2007
On a recent trip I took with Explorica Educational Travel to Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, we had the opportunity to see a Murano glass blowing demonstration. I had been to Venice before and was quickly sucked into the beauty of the glass while strolling the streets, but I had never seen exactly how this was all made.

Explorica booked the demo for us and included the cost in our tour, and it was definitely worth it. We were led into the Murano glass factory and watched a true Glass Master at work. He began with a small ball of glowing hot glass then quickly started blowing and turning until he craftily sculpted a vase within about 2 minutes. As a special treat we also got to watch him craft a horse from the leftover scraps.

It was a great treat to see the behind the scenes aspect of this craft and I would highly recommend a quick stop on your next trip to Venice.
