Terrace view restaurant in Istanbul Feb 12, 2011
Muradan offers authentic Byzantine and Turkish cuisine with an open terrace view on the upper level overlooking the Sea of Marmara and the Blue Mosque. There is also a lower level inside dining area which is rather elegant and clean looking inside, but the prices are quite reasonable for the atmosphere and the food is excellent. It's a great place to have lunch after touring the sights near Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque, from which it is only a short walk down Sultanhamet. It's a bit hidden back here behind the Arista Bazaar and you have to walk through an open courtyard to get to the restaurant entrance. The views are really quite spectacular from here and I can recommend this restaurant for the views, authentic food selections, and service. Give it a try when in Istanbul. You will be pleasantly pleased with the experience.

The way it was described is that you have the opportunity to choose from a variety of cuisines from cultures within the Turkish culture - which of course include Byzantine and Ottoman. I suspect your astute observation is correct and likely the implication is that the dishes are influenced by the cultures of Turkey, but not directly from them. Thanks for making the point and it's always nice to see a bit of scrutiny. Byzantine Cuisine - It does rhyme nice though, eh?

Byzantine cuisine? Love the rhythm, but guessing this must be a recent re-discovery? The Byzantines haven't been around for quite some time and I wouldn't think "Byzantine cuisine" persisted thru the centuries, so guessing this is a modern resuscitation?
