* taking a swim in the Atlantic, near a lonely beach in Sal Island (Cape Verde)

* witnessing one of Barack Obama's electoral rallies 14 months before getting elected, in Creston (Iowa)

* visiting the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the deep sea harbour of Norfolk (Virginia)

* my foray into four lovely places - Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Fort Augustus - in four days (Scotland)

* getting lost with a Spanish friend in the US Capitol, and rushing from one floor to another (Washington DC)

* visiting the Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre and the surrounding area on a couple of hours gap between two flights (Lisbon)

* dismanteling the toilet door of a Boeing 737-400 on a flight from Bucharest to Amsterdam
