Munot Schaffhausen Reviews
For a bird's eye view of the city Jul 11, 2014
The Munot is a circular 16th century fortification in the center of the Swiss city of Schaffhausen. It is surrounded by vineyards and serves as the city's symbol. The ring-shaped fortress was built in the 16th century. Today it is a tourist attraction and serves as location for some of the city events and weddings! I was lucky enought to catch a wedding lunch taking place when i visited the Munot.
When u are up at the Munot, u can get the best view of the entire city since this is the highest point in Schaffhausen. At the base of the Munot (if you are lucky enough - if it aint too cold) you can see little goats or pony.
Every night at 9pm, the guardian of the Munot (still dressed in Medieval costume), i understand, he lives there high up in this tower, he will ring the bells by hand (mind u!) for about 5 to 10 mins to signify that the town gates and inns should be closed (as per in the Medieval age).
So if u ever come to Schaffhausen, you should this give this fortress a visit!
