Munnar is nestled in Western Ghats of India, and one of the most popular hillside regions in the state of Kerala. The nearest large city is Kochi which is 5 hours drive by road. The road conditions can be winding but are fair to poor. Because of its altitude, the climate is generally cool to moderate. The altitude alone is worth some amazing landscapes.
Munnar district is blessed by spectacular scenery and lush tea estates. Due to the scenery, Munnar is favored by newly weds and romantics. Occasionally there are sightings of wild elephants, but it is more common to see birds of many kinds. Not far from Munnar, there are also spice farms and gardens, though not as common as Thekkady. Munnar is also a good place to see 'Mudra', a special art expression, usually in the form of a play based on body language and facial expression.
