Nice plave for nature lovers Nov 26, 2015
Deriving its name from the Malayalam words Moonu Aaru meaning ‘three rivers’, Munnar is located at the confluence of three rivers — Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly. Situated in the Idukki district of Kerala on the Western Ghats, it is known for its pristine beauty and pleasant climate. At a height of 6,000 ft above sea level, the major attraction of Munnar is its extensive stretch of tea and cardamom plantations.

Developed as a plantation town by the then British resident to Travancore John Daniel Munro, Munnar is the ideal destination for adventure enthusiasts, honeymooners, wildlife and nature lovers alike. It is known for the Neelakurinju flowers, which bloom once in 12 years, the town’s beauty is only multiplied as the hills and valleys get blanketed by the blooms.

The virgin forests, rolling hills, scenic valleys, waterfalls and sprawling tea plantations make Munnar a must-visit. While it is an ideal location to hang in your boots and relax, adventure lovers can indulge in mountain trekking, paragliding and boating. The Eravikulam, Thattekad and Chinnar wildlife sanctuaries make Munnar perfect for the nature lover as well and for those of you who love tea, a visit to the Tea Museum is a must.

Kerala is known as Gods own country. It has beautiful beaches and lovely green pastures , tea gardens, wild life, temples , churches . A visit to this country side is a refreshing experience. Munnar , Thekkadi, Allepey, Cochin and Trivandrumare places you will certainly enjoy. Though I have not tried, Kerala ayurveda oil massage is famous. Thekkadi is known for wild life and you can take a boat ride to see the animals in the jungles. Munnar is known for tea estates and beautiful landscapes. Occasionally you may across cascading waterfalls - they are delight to the eye. In Cochin , those who have sweet tooth should enjoy "paala payasam" ( rice cooked in condensed milk and sweetened. Take a round in a ferry along the back waters of Cochin and stay in a house boat in Allepey. Allepey is also famous for annual boat race.
