Munising Vacation Guide
Munising is a small town in the U.P. (only about 2500 people according to the 2000 census) that is about an hours drive east from Marquette. Despite being small there is plenty to do in the area!
In town you can find boat tours of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and also a glass bottom boat tour of some of the shipwrecks in the area. Outside of town, on NFHighway 13, you'll find a small airstrip where you can take a plane ride over the area. On the western side of town there is a ferry to Grand Island where you can bike or hike the island as well as some campsites(permits usually needed for camping). On the eastern side of town you can find Munising falls and further down the road from there is Sand Point; a shallow beach area that is very beautiful and a little warmer than most of the beaches Superior has to offer.
If you are looking to see more of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore area, head east out of town to Highway 28 and follow the brown signs. The closest beach on the Pictured Rocks is Miners then followed by Chapel which requires a short hike (only a few miles) into. To get hiking maps of the area head on over to the Forest Service office right off the main street in town.
There are 17 named waterfalls in the Munising area and numerous smaller ones many of which are worth a photo or two.
The town doesn't have much to offer for restaurants and a few places for accommodations.
