Mud volcanoes of Qobustan Jul 20, 2005
The mud volcanoes near Qobustan, Azerbaijan are an odd sight. The area is covered with dozens of mounds of cracked dry earth that ooze and bubble grey mud. The volcanoes are near the petroglyph museum but can be hard to find. We hired a taxi from Baku for the day but he didn't know where to go so we ended up hiring a guide from the museum to show the taxi the way. It was an adventure in itself trying to fit 6 people in a LADA! The mud volcanoes can be visited in a day trip from Baku, Qobustan is about an hour south.
