Almighty Bromo Feb 14, 2013
Speechless. That's all I can say when I go to the mountains. I once hiked mountain at my senior high era. This is the second time but friendly track. No need to mow the tall grass and wildings. Bromo is must-see and must-visit spot when you come to Indonesia. It's located in Probolinggo. Here I assit you to it, go to Probolinggo bus terminal, then take the "Bison" or elf to the Cemoro Lawang for 25K IDR. Once you reach the Cemoro Lawang (be advised, better come before night), find the homestay, do bargaining. I got 4bedrooms for only 300K, me and my 6other friends. The houselady provide the meals, she cook the rice, but side dish is from us. Give the ingredient to her, she will serve you the best.

You need to rent Jeep (offroad vehicle) go to up to see sunrise. Jeep cost around 350K - 600K. Again, use your bargaining skill! More people are way cheaper than share with few.

No need to stay long at Cemoro Lawang. Bromo for one night is more than enough. You got sunrise, you go see crater by riding a horse for 100K return way. You go to savana, and "pasir berbisik" (whispering sand).

Hope this helps!

Mt Bromo Mar 27, 2011
Mt. Bromo is a good place for sight seeing and photograhpy. Its located at EAst Java, Indonesia. And its a ideal place to see sunrise.

Mt. Bromo is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. At 2,329 metres (7,641 ft) it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god

Best Sunrise Moment - Bromo Oct 29, 2010
Here, I experienced one of my best sunrise moment. It was a speechless moment for me. Though you have to wake up at 3 a.m, cool weather and sometimes windy, but when the sun comes out, it suddenly payed-off!

After sunrise, you'll get down to the crater. There, the jeeps had to be parked in the deserts, and you could walk or horse-ride to the stairs toward the crater. Bring mouth cover and glasses as the dusts are sometimes so annoying.

Step up the stairs to see the crater, and this is really challenging but fun! up there, just enjoy the view!

I'd like to go to Bromo again, with someone I love.

PS: if you are a photographer, prepare your gears, including tripod. Wake up earlier, so that you will get the best spot for the sunrise. Have a nice trip

Hiking Mt. Bromo, Java Jul 13, 2008
The Stratovolcano Mt. Bromo ("Gunung Bromo") is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Eastern Java, Indonesia. It is one of several volcanos located in the Tengger Caldera. Bromo is one of the most active volcanos in Indonesia. Its entire top has been blown off. Elevation is 2,329 metres (7,641 feet).

I started my trip to Mt. Bromo in the city of Probolinggo which is located about 35 kilometers northeast of the caldera. Since Mt. Bromo is a major tourist attraction it is easy to arrange transport ("taksi", "bemo"). Prices were moderate back in 2001. Warning: Since "time is money" for the drivers some of them feature a very sporty driving style! (my driver seemed to be an ambitious racing driver)

The perfect starting point for hiking Mt. Bromo is a nice little village called Cemero Lawang which is located at the northeast edge of the caldera. Accommodation here is - of course - higher in price but nevertheless cheap regarding European or American standards. If you arrive in the afternoon (like me) walk to the rim and enjoy the panorama of the „Sand Sea“ caldera (Pasir Laut)). If the view is clear you can see Mt. Bromo, Mt. Batok and the mighty Semeru (3,676 m) in the background. Simply great!

Next morning I got up at 3:30 AM to be in time for the sunrise (5:30 AM). Jeep tours and horseback rides to Mt. Bromo are offered in the village. I decided to walk (3 km one way). Important: bring a strong pocket lamp and warm clothes! It can be very cool (equipment is available for rent in all guesthouses and hotels) The trail to Mt. Bromo leads down a ramp into the caldera. Then you have to cross the „Sand Sea“ through the lava ripples passing a Hindu temple. From there steps lead to the crater rib.

The sunrise was breathtaking. Incredible colours. And the scenery is awesome. Unearthly. After sunrise I walked arround the crater rim. There is only a bumpy meter-wide path. You should be free from giddiness and be careful! „Careful“ is the word anyway. Mt. Bromo is still very active. During my visit the volcano belched out white smoke constantly. (2004 two tourists were killed by rocks spit out by Mt. Bromo).

Most of the people were gone when I left the volcano two hours later. I decided against a pony ride back to the ramp and walked again to enjoy the landscape.

The bottom line:

An easy hike. Spectacular landscape. Very rewading!
