a magnificent panoramic view Oct 25, 2014
Mt Norikura is located at the southern end of the Japan North Alps. This mountain is 3,026 meters above sea level, the 19th highest mountain in Japan. Norikura means a saddle on a horse. Like other beautiful mountains in Kamikochi, you can access this mountain easily from Takayama and Matsumoto. After the war, a sightseeing toll road was opened to traffic, so the natural environment had been losing. Local people decide to control automobile traffic. Only sightseeing buses and the cars concerned are permitted to pass through. Using a shuttle bus at Norikura skyline, you will arrive at Tatamidaira bus stop. Tatamidaira is 2,702 meters above sea level. The slope to the summit was rocky and gravelly. But you can climb in 90 minutes. When I reached the summit, I was shocked to see the thick smoke rising from Mt Ontake in the southwest direction. This Mt Norikura is a volcano as well.
