Mt. Evans, higher than Pikes PeakF Oct 04, 2014
Fill up with supplies and gasoline in Denver. Take I 70 west to Idaho Springs exit and take CO 103 south. After climbing halfway up a mountain you will see the Mt. Evans enterance on the right (FS 5). The last time I was there they had a fee of $10 per car. The road is paved all the way up, but you have to drive slow with no guardrails and winding roads. They had at least one good large lake with green water. The mountain is green with grass and had plenty of wildlife including marmuts, ground squirrels, mt. sheep and goats, and other things I did not see. I was not there at dusk when the animals go out in search of food.

Finally at the parking lot by the visitor center I looked at the 300 to 400 foot mound of rocks and dirt that was the very top at 14,284 feet mountain. I walked the switchbacks up to the top. Then I stopped to catch my breath. The top had a wonderful view of Colorado.
