Mowtown House Roppongi Reviews
Tiny place, lots of fun Jul 25, 2009
Being honest, Roppongi is not the place to go if you want an "authentic" Japanese experience. There are more foreigners than Japanese at any given bar, Mowtown House being no exception.
That being said, my friends and I weren't looking for a cultural experience, just a good time, and Mowtown House was definitely fun! We went to Mowtown House 2, the basement establishment. The music was good for the most part, mostly everyone was upbeat and having a good time, and the bartenders are generous with the liquor. Prices are about average for Roppongi, 800yen for basic cocktails (Captain and coke, vodka and cranberry, Jameson and ginger ale), 900-1000yen for shooter and beer, 1000-1200yen for more "fancy" cocktails. They also have a large list of scotch, brandies, bourbons and whiskeys. They pretty much bombard you with menus as you walk through the door, but as long as you get that first drink, you can stay as long as you like (I think we stayed for several hours!)
We went on a Saturday night, and it was jam packed. The place was not made for dancing, but people do anyways. An 800 or 1000yen drink does beat 3500yen cover charge at one of the clubs. Keep in mind that it's definitely a sardine can, so if you have a problem with crowded, tight places, this might not be the place for you.
I would definitely go back again (unlike most of the forgettable bars we went to the same night), and I would recomend it to people who want to party and have a good time.
