Mountain Inn Hotel for Kilimanjaro Climbers Nov 14, 2009
We stayed at the Mountain Inn in Moshi the night before our climb on Mt. Kili. I think about everyone who stays here is here for the mountain climb. The rooms are clean and very basic; there is no television, no internet access, no A/C, or even fans. One inconvenience was the lack of hot water. We had it in the evening, but just when I was looking forward to a hot shower on the morning we left, there was none. The staff (Castro and Ernest) was friendly and helpful, and was very apologetic about the lack of hot water. The food at the restaurant was good, although the selections are limited. The Mountain Inn is located a few minutes from town so cab rides to and from will cost about $10-12USD.
Except for the occasional rooster crowing or village children heard playing, it is very quiet place. If you want to get out and walk around, there is a small grocery store/market close by which have a few things you might need. There are also a few roadside places where you can get a cold beer. The cost seems rather steep for just a basic hotel (about 45-50USD for a room), but the demand is high for rooms in this area, so you have to take what you can get.
