Behold one of the best views in Israel. Mount of Olives, famous for its scenic panoramic view of Jerusalem and its beautiful cemetery, is a must-visit when trailing through Israel.

Even if you love to walk, it is not the recommended way to reach the top of this mountain. Take a taxi and save your energy, as the roads are so steep that you feel the taxi might roll backwards at times. Don't pay more than 30 shekels ($9) for the taxi though, and don't try and take the bus- its more expensive and time-consuming. I would recommend finding a taxi near Lion's Gate (at the Old City), as it provides you a chance to wander around Jerusalem to get there, and will save you a few dollars with the taxi.

Atop the mountain are some small convenient stores and restaurants (as well as a hotel or two), as well as a cheerful Iraqi man and his camel, which you can ride around the mountain for that familiar 30 shekels.

If you decide to walk down the mountain do be careful, as you are at times walking through the more-dangerous areas of East Jerusalem. Just keep to yourself and make the trip down before dark.

Just take a look at the accompanying photos and you won't be able to resist this Mountain's appeal.

Definitely worth the climb May 02, 2011
You can catch a bus or a taxi up the hill, however, it is not a long walk, and, provided you go early to avoid the heat, it is not a difficult walk. The steepness of the hill is balanced by it's brevity, it's really not far! The view from the top is spectacular, the only downside being it's hard to get a minute on your own. It is after all the best view of old Jerusalem.
