Forget about Angeles City when you are in the Philippines, Mount Pinatubo is a must for those who are adventurous. Do scout around for tour agencies around the city for the best deal available. You will be pick up at your hotel ( in my case ) by a driver to drive you to a small village ( more like a base ) From here onwards, it's a 1 1/2 hours drive with a 4WD vehicle ( also depends on how good is the driver at manoeuvering through rough roads ( mostly lava trails )all the way. Then it comes to a dead end. From here onwards a local guide will guide you all the way up to Mt Pinatubo ( they are super fit! ) It takes approximately another 2 hours for the hike before you reach the crater.

We were supplied with 3 small bottles of Gatorade only...so bring along more water if you think you get dehydrated easily.

I can't remember how much exactly but it was somewhere around USD80 to USD100. It depends which package & route you choose to take. There are several routes, so to speak! There's one route which could lead you to a hot spring.

You definately can hike without a guide but i think you will still need a 4WD unless you are willing to trek for several days by foot.

Hope the info helps! cheers!
