Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa Ranau Reviews
Good hotel with 2 type with accomodations Aug 28, 2011
I stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend, as well as her mom & uncle and her brother. I had told Karena, that I wanted to see Mount Kinabalu and her uncle offered to take us there. So we went there, booking 1 night at the Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa.
Our initial rooms were 2 chalets, located on a hill across the hotel itself. The climb to the chalets with our luggage was okay, but because her uncles condition was not 100%, we decided to check if we could get rooms in the hotel itself.
The chalets themselves were nice, surrounded by trees. Through the trees, we had a wonderful view. The room was clean and simple, with a decent kingsize bed, small desk & stool as well as flat screen tv. The bathroom was big, housing a shower which had no curtain. So, be aware that it can splash around when you shower.
But as above mentioned, we changed locations from the chalets to 2 superior rooms. These rooms were very spacious. Upon entry was a small living room, complete with couch, table and mini bar.
The bedroom was very spacious with a big kingsize bed, small desk & stool and 2 chair and small table under the window. There was also a big closet to hang your clothes (if necessary). Karena and I shared one room, while her mom & uncle and her brother shared the other. We asked for a matrass for the brother to sleep on, which was no charge.
The bathroom was spacious, the shower was in a cabin. The toilet however was placed pretty inconveniently. Being a tall person in Asia has its downsides and here was one of them.
The toilet was placed in a corner of the bedroom and a wall began maybe some 30 cm. from the toilet. This meant I had to sit sideways when using the toilet, my right leg just had no proper room. Or had to sit all cramped up... no way!
The hotel staff was very friendly, making no problem at all when we changed rooms. They even brought our luggage from the chalets to the rooms and placed them in the rooms, while we were away.
We had lunch and dinner in the hotel. Lunch was from a menu, so we could choose from a variety of meals. But dinner was buffet style, because it was ramadan and the buffet was halal food. It contained mainly vegetable dishes.
All in all we had a pleasant 1 night stay at this hotel, and the view from our rooms were good. If we were any higher, we we could see Mount Kinabalu, but on our level, the tree lines blocked the view partially. I didn't checked the spa, so I can't tell you about that.
But there is a viewing platform at the back of the hotel, with a clear view of the mountain. Karena and I went there in the early morning to watch the sunrise.
