Mount Isa Overview

Mount Isa is a mining city in the Northwest region of the state of Queensland in Australia, with its namesake Mount Isa Mines and its vast mineral deposits being the original reason on how it was founded.

The city municipality covers one of the largest areas in the world (43,310 square km), and includes the 188km stretch of the Barkly Highway making it the "longest main street" in the world. Mount Isa is the birthplace of some notable people, including Pat Rafter (tennis) and Greg Norman (golf).

Attractions include the Hard Times Mines Tour (miner-guided tour, and the Mount Isa Rodeo and Mardis Gras (the largest Rodeo event in the Southern Hemisphere, giving Mount Isa the nickname of "Rodeo Capital of Australia"
