The summit of Mount Fuji is 12,300 feet (3,700 meters) above sea level. It takes about 10 hours to climb up and 4 hours to climb down in bad weather. Mt. Fuji is actually 3 volcanoes merged together. There are several small "hotels" which are shelters with hot food and cold beer along the main trails. The shelter at the "Fuji-san Hotel" (better described as a "shack" shelter) on the side of the mountain where was at 3,200 meters. Be sure to get your wooden walking stick "branded" with a Japanese seal as you cross into each "gate" along the way at various altitudes.

Important Note: Climbing Mount Fuji can only be done during July and August. The weather gets to bad to climb in September.
