Mount Cook YHA Reviews
Best hostel ever May 12, 2008
The only real alternative, if you can't afford the Hermitage Hotel. Excellent facilities and very comfortable double bed for me. The usual stuff like laundry, internet access (YHA), kitchen, sauna and bike hire.
Would have been good to see all NZ staff. Near the entrance you will find loads of brochures about what you can see and do. The staff will help book any trips, onward travel or booking your next YHA stay. If only every hostel in the world was like this one... Part of the Fiji, New Zealand and Australia travel blog |

Stunning drive from Christchurch to Mount Cook. The YHA centre has a nice view of the mountains, though you have to venture a bit further to get a view of Mt. Cook itself - the Edmund Hillary Cafe at the Hermitage Hotel has a fantastic view. More to come, when I get time.

Went
up to see the glacier in the Tasman Valley, with Alan's 4WD Tours
($100, with YHA discount). We did most of the tour in 8-wheel buggies,
called Argo. Just seeing how a glacier can rip the side off of
mountains is amazing (yes, yes - it's what actually creates the
mountains in the first place).
… Walk out to Kea Point. Ah - mountain air |
