Located in the centre of the South Island, Mount Cook National Park is accessed by a road from the southern end of the park. The drive from here to the visitors' centre passes some of the most exceptional scenery I have ever seen: snowy mountains and wide open grassy spaced in between. The sunset over the mountains was spectacular. From the visitors' centre there are numerous walking tracks which enable you to track deeper into the fantastic scenery. The scenery in Fjorland was also very good, but Mount Cook National Park had the best I saw on the South Island.
