Mount Bonnell Austin Reviews
Interesting Limestone Mount in Austin Dec 16, 2013
Mount Bonnell, considered as a highest natural view point in Austin-Texas, is one of the popular attractions where locals and tourists go to take a break from the city life and enjoy miles of beautiful view of the lush green hills located along the Hill County, winding Colorado river alongside of the mount, nice houses on both sides the river and hill slopes. There are few view point cliffs on the top which gives a fantastic view of the landscape and the river.
This is the one of the many limestone mounts found around the Austin and this one stands about 770 ft. above the sea level and it is popular due its history behind it.
There are two ways to reach the top of the mount - the simple way is to take the stairs and other way is to just follow the slope on the right side of the entrance which has little irregular path and uneven steps. However, going by the slope could be like a little trekking adventure.
One end of the mount overlooks the hill county and the other end overlooks the downtown area. Since the area at the top is not huge, there are no stalls or refreshments available, however, there is a shelter to sit and relax.
The historical marker(seen on the photo) is located on the top of the mount, explains who and when it was discovered.
This place is only a short drive from central Austin area and it is a quite nice place to spend an hour or two in the evenings or on the nice weather conditions, especially for the sunset. This is the one of interesting places I have seen in Austin and would recommend anyone traveling there.

One of the best views in Austin Apr 29, 2011
And it's free!
Hike a long staircase to the top of of the highest peak in Austin. It just happens to sit right next to the Colorado river that runs through the middle of Austin. It's a great spot to look at the river and a huge piece of the hill country. It's a mix of all the tree-covered hills mixed with the expensive houses on the west side of the city. Having them all lit up at night can be really pretty.
The view faces entirely west, so you'll get a great sunset every time.
Don't settle for just the view of the hills though - there are a few spots where you can see the city too, particularly in the winter when the trees are bare.
Tip: if you want the truly highest spot, climb on top of the wooden sun shade roof thing that covers the main area.
This is one of my favorites spots to come to in Austin.
