Motorbike Taxi's Bangkok Reviews
great to get around the city! Nov 10, 2012
When in Bangkok, getting to places on time can be difficult because of traffic... not to mention if you get a taxi cab who doesn't know where to go or is new to the profession! If you aren't afraid of motorbikes, and can speak a little Thai, then why not jump on the back of a motorbike taxi!
These guys are situated on almost every street corner in Bangkok, and are easily visible by their bright orange, green, or blue vests.
I wouldn't recommend getting one if you are traveling quite a distance, or if you need to venture onto the highway or tollway, but for short distances they are great! They are quick, and can go in between the cars, buses and trucks, which means you never have to be stuck somewhere for hours waiting for the traffic to move. AND they will even ride along the footpath if traffic is too much!
Make sure you do wear a helmet - and make sure you ask for one (they won't always give you one) - not only for your own safety, but if you are asked to stop by a policeman and you're not wearing one, you will be asked to pay a 500baht ($15) on the stop fine.
Depending on the distance you are traveling, you can expect to pay from 10baht to over 150baht. Make sure you negotiate a price before you jump on the back.
Even if you don't like motorbikes, or are afraid they are too dangerous, it is definitely an adrenalin rush the first time you experience it!
