The Motherland statue is placed at the War museum in Kiev.

Feorign tourist usually like this place. It reminds USSR times and shows the ideology of that times : everything to be extra (like size of the monument) The meaning of the statue is to assosiate Soviet Union as Motherland and to make people feel like living in ONE country (there were 15 republics at that time).

Also you feel the horror of the war while looking at al tank based there in the museum, and thinking about quantity of people dead.

PS: you may go to the museum for free, and only if you want to visit tiny area with tanks and helicopter you will pay 1 or 2 US dollars

Largest statue in Kiev Dec 05, 2010
The Mother Motherland statue has allegedly been built by Soviet Russia as a response to the statue of Liberty. This is also the reason why it is slightly larger than the Statue of Liberty.

The entrance to the statue grounds are lined by patriotic statues of soldiers and peasants in a war. All these scenes are set to a patriotic marching soundtrack.

In the pedestal of the statue, there is a museum commemorating 'The great patriotic war' which sheds an interesting light on the eastern side of World War 2.

While it is possible to go all the way up to the statue, it is not possible to go up inside the statue.
